Veterans Home Care Program
The Veterans’ Home Care (VHC) program helps eligible veterans and war widows remain independent and safe at home. It provides entry-level services such as domestic assistance, personal care, respite, and home maintenance through approved providers. VHC promotes wellbeing, independence, and community connection with capped client costs and practical, tailored support.


Eligibility for the Veterans Home Care Program
The Veterans’ Home Care (VHC) Program offers in-home care and support services to help Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) participants stay independent and live comfortably in their own homes.
You may be eligible for this program if you:
- Hold a DVA Gold Card; or
- Hold a DVA White Card (for specific conditions and/or Non-Liability Health Care); and
- Live at home; and
- Need assistance with everyday activities due to functional limitations

Domestic Assistance
Community Care TASMANIA can provide assistance with everyday domestic tasks to support comfort and wellbeing. This includes house cleaning, dishwashing, clothes and linen washing, bed making, grocery shopping, meal preparation, and help with bill paying.

Personal Care
Community Care TASMANIA offers personal care support to assist with daily routines, including bathing and showering, toileting, dressing and grooming, and assistance with eating. These services are delivered with dignity and respect, promoting overall wellbeing for residents.

Home and Garden Maintenance
Community Care TASMANIA helps with basic home and garden maintenance tasks, including replacement of light bulbs, window cleaning, minor home maintenance, and lawn mowing. These services help maintain a safe, tidy, and comfortable living environment for residents.

Respite Care
Respite care provides short-term support designed to give carers a well-deserved break while ensuring the person receiving care continues to feel safe, supported, and comfortable. There are several respite care options available to suit different needs and situations, including:
- In-home respite: gives carers a break by having another carer step in to help at home for a short time.
- Residential respite: offers short-term care in an Australian aged care facility, providing support while carers take a break.
- Emergency short-term home relief (ESTHR): provides immediate, short-term care at home if a carer is unexpectedly unable to continue their caring role.

If you or a loved one is interested in registering for the Veterans Home Care Program, getting started is simple.
1. Arrange an Assessment
To arrange an assessment, contact the VHC assessment agency on 1300 550 450.
2. Have a Friendly Chat About Your Needs
The VHC assessor will have a friendly chat with you about your situation to work out what services would best support you.
3. Your VHC Care Plan
If services are needed, the VHC assessment agency will send you a VHC Care Plan that clearly outlines what support is available for you, including the details of the service/s approved, the period of approval, the co-payment amount, and the name of the VHC service provider who will deliver the service/s
4. Begin Services
Once your Care Plan is ready, your service provider will get in touch with you to organise a time that suits you to start receiving your services.
